Project Description
How do people decide whether an AI system can be trusted? This project uses eye tracking to study how people visually inspect and evaluate AI systems as they make judgments about whether to trust their recommendations.

Undergraduate research assistants will get hands-on experience conducting eye-tracking experiments and studying human-AI interaction. Students will be trained to use research-grade eye-tracking equipment, run research participants, help prepare experimental materials, ensure that high-quality data are collected, and assist with organizing and analyzing data. The project is a good opportunity for students interested in AI, human cognition, communication, psychology, or emerging technology to see how these questions are studied experimentally.
Additional Information
This is a hands-on research position. Students will learn to operate eye-tracking technology and work directly with participants. Students who remain with the project may also have opportunities to become involved in data analysis and other stages of the research process. Required or Desired Skills
No previous eye-tracking or research experience is required. We are looking for students who are curious, reliable, organized, and attentive to detail. Students should also be comfortable interacting with research participants and willing to learn how to operate research equipment. An interest in AI, psychology, cognition, communication, or human-computer interaction is especially welcome. Programming or data-analysis experience is useful but not required.
