Situating Your Research Resume Workshop

Overview

The Situating Your Research Series emphasizes knowledge and skills that benefit students in the display and articulation of their undergraduate research experiences. 

By participating in this series, students have opportunities to:

  • Critically evaluate extant literature and research
  • Create a narrative about their research
  • Design a poster that reflects their research
  • Build relationships with students and staff at Ohio State

Spring Session 1

Crafting a Research Abstract

January 22, 12:30 - 1:30 p.m.

Location: Kuhn Honors & Scholars Center (Room 201)

Finalizing your application to present at the Denman Undergraduate Research Forum? Join the Writing Center for a mid-week workshop on writing effective abstracts. We'll review key elements of the genre, including its audience, purpose, and organization, and provide tips for writing your abstracts, which you'll be able to apply to this and future research contexts.

Spring Session 2

Creating and Presenting Your Research Poster

Developing a scientific research poster can be a complex but rewarding task. This step in the research process requires you to create a visual narrative of your research to supplement your presentation. Creating an engaging, user friendly and informative poster takes time. During this workshop, you will be provided with practical and effective strategies for successfully designing a research poster. We will also discuss resources you can use to develop your poster and tips to help you present your research.

Understanding the Denman Reviewer Rubric

Session Facilitated by Dr. Zach Hooten, Program Specialist, Undergraduate Research & Creative Inquiry

The Denman Forum is UR&CI’s only competitive poster forum in which winners are recognized in each category as determined by faculty, staff, and Denman alumni reviewers. In this session, the facilitator will explain the review process and the rubric used to “judge” the poster presentations.

Prepping for Your Presentation

Session Facilitated by Allison Kranek, Program Manager, Arts and Sciences – Center for Study of Teaching and Writing

You've been accepted to present at the Denman Undergraduate Research Forum—now what?! Join the Writing Center for a workshop on preparing your poster or verbal presentation. In this workshop, we'll review key strategies for compiling oral and visual presentations of your research, and you'll leave this workshop with a plan to help you develop your presentation.

Preparing for the Spring Undergraduate Research Festival
