Situating Your Research Series

The Situating Your Research Series emphasizes knowledge and skills that benefit students in the display and articulation of their undergraduate research experiences. By participating in this series, students have opportunities to:

  • Critically evaluate extant literature and research
  • Create a narrative about their research
  • Design a poster that reflects their research
  • Build relationships with students and staff at Ohio State

Session 1

Crafting Statements of Purpose

October 24 2025, 12:00 - 1:00 pm

Taking your research experience to the next level, whether applying to grants, scholarships, grad school, or employment opportunities, requires being able to write and speak concisely about your research experience and how it fits into your bigger plans. This workshop will focus on a process of reflection on your goals and experience, and how to communicate that effectively.

Session 2

Showcasing Research On Your CV for Graduate School

November 14 2025, 2:00 - 3:00 pm

This presentation will cover components of a strong resume and guidance on effectively adding research experience to your document. You will have an opportunity to reflect on your own research and apply what you’ve learned.

Learning outcomes:

  • Understand the components of an effective resume.
  • Reflect on research experience and identify transferable skills and personal contributions.
  • Learn how to describe experience using action-oriented impact statements.
