Undergraduate research is a transformational high-impact learning experience and critical for students who wish to pursue graduate education. Faculty play a crucial role in these experiences, offering opportunities to students and mentoring their undergraduate students involved in projects. Faculty who supervise undergraduate researchers may get credit for this work in tenure, promotion, merit-based salary decisions, and in teaching assignments.
Below are resources faculty can use to recruit, fund, mentor, and shape experiences for undergraduate researchers. We also take time to recognize individuals who have demonstrated success in mentoring with the Excellence in Undergraduate Research Mentoring Award. Ohio State undergraduates, enrolled on any campus, may nominate an Ohio State faculty, post-doctoral associate, or graduate student for the Excellence in Undergraduate Research Mentoring Award.
