Situating Your Research Series

The Situating Your Research Series emphasizes knowledge and skills that benefit students in the display and articulation of their undergraduate research experiences. By participating in this series, students have opportunities to:

  • Critically evaluate extant literature and research
  • Create a narrative about their research
  • Design a poster that reflects their research
  • Build relationships with students and staff at Ohio State

The series is open to students of all levels who have an interest in building their skills and knowledge of undergraduate research at Ohio State. For more workshops, see our full listing of new and current undergraduate student researcher workshops

Session 1

Critically Reading Scholarly Articles

October 1, 3:00 - 4:00 p.m.

Location: Nosker House, Burgee Room. 124 W Woodruff Ave.

A key part of any research project is engaging with scholarly articles related to the topic. However, reading these articles can be time consuming and frustrating. In this presentation, you will learn strategies that will allow you to more effectively read and understand scholarly articles. 

Learning Outcomes:

  • Identity key components of scholarly or peer-reviewed articles
  • Implement a range of different strategies for effectively reading scholarly articles

Session 3

How to Add Research Experience to Your Resume

November 13, 6:00 p.m.

This presentation will cover components of a strong resume and guidance on effectively adding research experience to your document. You will have an opportunity to reflect on your own research and apply what you’ve learned.

Learning outcomes:

  • Understand the components of an effective resume.
  • Reflect on research experience and identify transferable skills and personal contributions.
  • Learn how to describe experience using action-oriented impact statements.
