Project Description
Our team examines the implementation and effectiveness of one teacher professional learning program, Language Essentials for Teachers of Reading and Spelling (LETRS).
Our main project aims are:
Examine the effects of LETRS on teacher knowledge, teacher instructional practice, and student language and literacy outcomes
Moderation of effects by characteristics of the implementation context, inputs, activities, and outputs
Mediation of effects via teacher knowledge and teacher instructional practice
Evaluate cost effectiveness
LETRS will be implemented under real-world conditions (i.e., as typically implemented by schools/districts who have contracted with the publisher) within authentic educational contexts (in 60 elementary schools in Southern California) to potential end users (elementary teachers). Administrators and teachers will complete background, implementation, and knowledge surveys and allow for classroom observations. Students will complete language, reading, and writing assessments.
