Project Description
The Cognitive Health in Late Life (CHILL) Lab is seeking 2-3 highly motivated research assistants to volunteer with our current research studies. Research assistants can gain academic credit via registering for Undergraduate Research in Psychology (PSYCH4998).

Responsibilities:
Community engagement (40%): Assisting with brain health seminars; assisting with tables at health fairs; fostering relationships with faith communities, clinics, and local organizations.
Research activities (40%): Administering cognitive screening measures; assisting with data collection from surveys; contributing to scientific abstracts, presentations, and publications.
Professional development (20%): Attending lab meetings; reviewing scientific journal articles on Alzheimer’s disease; cultivating oral communication skills for scientific and lay audiences.

Important dates for Black Impact:
You will need to be available to assist with data collection from 3:30 pm - 7:30 pm at the OSU Healthy Community Center (1600 E Long St) for 3 of the following 7 days:
Monday, Oct. 6; Tuesday, Oct. 7; Wednesday, Oct. 8; Thursday, Oct. 9; Oct. 10, Monday, Oct. 13; or Tuesday, Oct. 14.
Training on test administration will be provided in September 2025.

Important dates for the AMEN Study:
Research assistants will be expected to attend at least 50% of the community engagement events scheduled over Fall 2025 - Spring 2026, which will occur approximately once per month on weekdays, weekends, and/or evenings. Upcoming dates include:
Friday, September 26, 10:00 am - 2:00 pm ET: ADHOC Brain Health Fair
Sunday, October 12, 11:00 am - 5:00 pm: Walk to End Alzheimer’s

- Your major / concentration (e.g., psychology, neuroscience, etc.)
- Your class standing (e.g., sophomore, junior, etc.) and expected graduation date (e.g., Spring 2027, Spring 2028).
- Why you are interested in research on Alzheimer’s disease or behavioral interventions to promote brain health in older adults.
- Your future career goals.
- Your experiences with community engagement.
- Whether you have access to a vehicle and are willing to help carpool to travel to local community events.

Applications will be reviewed immediately on a first-come, first-serve basis. Qualified candidates will be scheduled for a virtual interview with Dr. Grant in August and September 2025.
Required or Desired Skills
Required qualifications:
Minimum undergraduate GPA = 3.5 or above
Proficiency with Microsoft software (Outlook, Teams, Word, PowerPoint, Excel) and Google software (Docs, Slides, Sheets)
An interest in studying Alzheimer’s disease and behavioral interventions to promote brain health in older adults.
An interest in community engagement and providing access to healthcare to underserved populations.
Availability to volunteer during nonstandard hours (e.g., evenings, weekends, approximately once per month) for community engagement and data collection activities.

Desired Qualifications:
Competitive applicants will meet many (not necessarily all) of the following qualifications:
An interest in obtaining research experience to prepare for applying to graduate school in the future, particularly Ph.D. programs in clinical psychology, clinical neuropsychology, public health, or medical school.
Experience with public speaking or leading group activities.
Planning to complete your undergraduate degree in 2027 or 2028.
Experience with statistical analysis software (e.g., SPSS or R).
Available to assist with community engagement events in Columbus in Summer 2026.
