The 2019 Spring Undergraduate Research Festival will be held on Tuesday, March 26, 2019 (exact time TBA).

The Spring Undergraduate Research Festival will be held in the Ohio Union.

What is the schedule for the 2019 Spring Undergraduate Research Festival?

Poster and Oral Presentations, and 3 Minute Thesis Competition Session 1: 10:00-11:00am

Poster and Oral Presentations, and 3 Minute Thesis Competition Session 2: 11:30-12:30pm

Poster and Oral Presentations, and 3 Minute Thesis Competition Session 3: 1:30-2:30pm

Poster and Oral Presentations, and 3 Minute Thesis Competition Session 4: 3:00-4:00pm

What is the timeline for the 2019 Spring Undergraduate Research Festival?

Applications for the 2019 Spring Undergraduate Research Festival will open on Monday, January 7, 2019 and close on February 1, 2019 at 5:00pm. Please note that no extensions will be granted.

What events are taking place at the 2019 Spring Undergraduate Research Festival?

Poster Presentations:  Students will create and print a poster about their project.  Posters will be displayed on a large easel.

Oral Presentations  Students will create a slide presentation about their project.  Oral presentations will be 10-minutes in length (7-minute student presentation and 3-minute question and answer period). 

3-Minute Thesis Competition: Students will create a static slide and discuss their research, in lays terms, in only three minutes. More information on the 3 Minute Thesis Competition can be found here.

Creative Arts Syposium (hosted in conjunction with the Second-Year Transformational Experience Program (STEP): For more information on the Creative Arts Symposium, please visit here.

Postdoctoral + Undergraduate Research Showcase (hosted in conjuncation with the OSU Postdoctoral Assocation): Details are still being developed! More information will be available soon!

Who is eligible to participate in the 2019 Spring Undergraduate Research Festival?

Poster and Oral Presentations: students must meet all criteria below

  • Student must be enrolled at any OSU campus as an undergraduate. Students are not limited based on rank or discipline
  • Student must not be presenting in the 2019 Denman Undergraduate Research Forum
  • Student must not be presenting in the 3 Minute Thesis Competition that will be held during the 2019 Spring Undergraduate Research Festival. Students, however, are welcome to present in the Creative Arts Symposium or Postdoctoral + Undergraduate Research Showcase if they meet the eligibility requirements.

3 Minute Thesis Competition: 

  • Student must be enrolled at any OSU campus as an undergraduate. Students are not limited based on discipline.
  • Student must be graduating in Spring 2019, Summer 2019 or Autumn 2019.
  • Student must have a completed research project (i.e., you have collected and analyzed data and can discuss your study's results and findings.

  • Student must not have competed in the Autumn 2018 3MT® Competition (held on November 1, 2018 as a part of the 2018 Autumn Undergraduate Research Festival) 
  • Student must not be presenting in the 2019 Denman Undergraduate Research Forum
  • Student must not be presenting in the Poster or Oral Presentations that will be held during the 2019 Spring Undergraduate Research Festival. Students, however, are welcome to present in the Creative Arts Symposium or Postdoctoral + Undergraduate Research Showcase if they meet the eligibility requirements.

What are the submission guidelines for the Festival?

Students may only submit one individually-authored abstract.

However, students may submit an additional abstract as part of a larger group project.

Students may submit an abstract for research or a creative project conducted at another institution and/or supervised by a non-OSU faculty member.

What is the submission process for the Festival?

The application consists of the following sections:

Section I:  Lead Student Presenter's Background and Contact Information

Section II: Presentation Format and Session Preferences  

Section III:  Research Mentor’s Contact Information

Section IV:  Funding Support

Section V:  Title, Abstract (350 word limit)

Section VI: Research Project Co-authors

Section VII:  Lead Student Presenter's Electronic Signature
 

The application for the 2019 Spring Festival will close on Friday, February 1, 2019 at 5:00pm. No extensions will be granted.

How will students be selected for presentation format and session (if applicable)?

Students will be selected on a first come, first serve basis. While completing the application, students will have the opportunity to rank their presentation format choices, as well as their session choices. No guarantee can be made that students will receive their first choice as there is limited capacity for each presentation format and session.
